This Saturday, October 13, we have another exclusive: the legendary Kevin Ruiz plays a 4 hour set. Be prepared to party! Be prepared to be blown away (again). Opening set by James Bald 008. Rewired: Where we satisfy the most discerning of clubbers. Kevin Ruiz is one of the country’s legendary DJs and is still one of the most highly rated. In the late nineties to 2003, he was resident of ABGs and then of seveneightorange, two clubs that were a big part of the house music revolution in Manila. His six-hour sets at seveneightorange made him famous. He is one of the very few in the local scene who can take you on a journey. Born and raised in New York City, he has kept the NYC influence in his music. Kevin’s music is very up to date as he is sent the latest tracks from DJs and producers around the world. He is also one of the few house DJs who can scratch and use proper effects in his DJ sets. He has played alongside numerous big name DJs/Artists such as Chicane, Deep Dish and recently, Café Mambo Ibiza resident Pete Gooding.

This Saturday, Sept 22, Rewired Warehouse 135 brings you another exclusive: Kevin Ruiz vs. Funk Avy. Two of the countries finest DJs go head to head in what looks like to be the DJing equivalent of a Manny Pacquiao fight. Opening set by another veteran, Travis Monsod. Prepare for another night of party mayhem. Manila, you now have a choice for a real clubbing night. In case you didn’t know, Kevin Ruiz is one of the country’s legendary DJs. In the late 90's to 2003, he was the resident DJ of ABGs and then of seveneightorange, two clubs that were a big part of the house music revolution in Manila. His six-hour sets at seveneightorange made him famous. He is one of the very few in the local scene who can take you on a journey. Funk Avy is currently Manila’s hottest DJ (We stand by this proclamation). We will say this again; he is probably the first local DJ with a recording contract with an international label, Fusion Recordings of France. I remember very well one early morning. I think it was 1992, James McCranie was on the decks after another moving prime time set by Elmer Dado. James was playing a set of unknown records. Nothing was familiar to me or to anyone else in the club. It was acid house and he was driving it hard record after record. Despite not knowing any track, it was a very moving set, and it made me and my friends dance like crazy on the floor. It was then I discovered the power and the artistry of the DJ. Instead of playing the anthems, James was using records as building blocks to build and create a vibe and energy that made people dance. That moment and many moments help shape clubbing in this country. I couldn't see myself in any other club at that time. The music was impecabble and up to date. It was the time when acid house and techno were taking over dancefloors all over the world and Mars made sure they didn't get left out. They didn't rely on the popular hits but instead made their own anthems: Prodigy's "Out of Space" (They were playing Prodigy before anyone of you heard of them), Smart E's "Sesame's Treet, Lil Louis "French Kiss" and Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams" (played first in Mars but bastardized everywhere else). Now I just gave away my age. See you all this Saturday.

I read a post recently that some people are getting bored with the same old music. Well, that is the reason Rewired was born and continues to exist. We too are tired of the same old commercial crap we hear over and over again. DJs are supposed to be artists, not jukeboxes. Well peeps, you finally have a choice. This Saturday is going to be legendary and i'm not just saying that for hard sell's sake. Rubber Inc is a pioneer in the electronica scene in this country. They even met the mayor of Cologne (ironic that they are not appreciated as they should be in their own country). The Teichmann Brothers is an established name in the Berlin scene. Funk Avy is probably the hottest DJ in the city right now. The choice is yours. If you miss it...well... If you don't, you can tell your children about it someday. See you all this Saturday. Free entrance before midnight with a welcome drink!

Back in the country after their successful gig at the C/O pop festival in Germany, Rubber Inc brought with them the Teichmann Brothers ( http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=64974425). They just finished their Cebu gig at the Loft last Saturday and the crowd reaction was incredible, to say the least. The two will be playing at Rewired, Warehouse 135 this Saturday September 8 with an opening set by international recording artist and our very own Funk Avy. This is another night you should not miss. Experience the music taking over dancefloors all over the world. Don't get left behind as we continue taking it further to another level. A music workshop will precede the event at 6pm, Warehouse 135. To register, email your name age and occupation to rewired.manila@gmail.com. Teichmann Brothers: DJ brothers Andi and Hannes Teichmann, originally from Regensburg in Germany, have been collaborating in music projects for years. As electronic musicians, they run their own label “Festplatten” and release on such internationally acclaimed labels as “Kompakt” (Cologne) and “L’age d’or” (Hamburg). The two also play together in indie band “BiegeGT” and “Teichmann Hurt”, a music project with composer/zither player Lopold Hurt. In 2002, the Teichmann Brothers became the youngest recipients of the City of Regensburg’s Culture Prize. In the same year they joined up with fellow musicians and performing artists to found an art association called “Graz e.v”, which created not only an inspiring work space but also an independent venue for exhibitions, symposiums, concerts and other cultural events. The brothers now live and work in Berlin.

Save for the occasional alcohol-fueled scuffle or drunken celebrity sighting, Saturday nights never really offer anything out of the ordinary.
In fact, bare-knuckled showdowns –complete with hair-pulling and a nasty exchange of expletives -have become a spectator for all sorts of bar rats, casual observers, and accidental voyeurs.
But recently, Super was witness to a different kind of showdown, this time involving three local DJs and a live visual artist.
At the Rewired Experiment at Warehouse 135 last Aug. 4, progressive music meisters Caliph8, Stevie Tambunting, and Funk Avy faced off in a friendly battle that pitted their cutting-edge brand of dance music with the cool digital art of Dondon “Houseboy” Renato.
“We like to call it OPDM, or Original Pinoy Dance Music,” shared Warehouse 135 head honcho Domini Primero, as the trio played side-by-side, dishing out sonic slabs of electronica. Above the DJ deck, a massive screen displayed Houseboy’s graphic interpretation of their music.
“Club music and its accompanying culture constantly crave for new ideas,” says DJ Adrian Cuenca of Rewired, a consortium of DJs that aims to push the boundaries and break the rules of dance music. “Many DJs and club owners stick to what is safe. We want to take clubbing to a new level, and the only way to move forward is to innovate.”
So if you’re in the mood for a little sonic innovation, Cuenca and his band of electronic bandits hold court at Warehouse 135 twice a month. Tonight at 10 p.m., Miss Badkiss, Silverfilter, and Funk Avy go head to head. On Sept. 8, it’s Rubber Inc. versus the Teichman Brothers from Germany, followed by the skinny rumble between James Bald 008 and Kevin Ruiz on Sept. 22.
In this tradition-driven megalopolis called Metro Manila, where music and other forms of entertainment have a tendency to ride the mainstream wave, it’s good to know that our club nights are neither prosaic nor predictable.

We are in the business of entertainment and we will give you your money's worth. We won't provide you with 'young' amateurs to play music for you. Take a look at the profiles of our DJs and they certainly can back it up with bite, not just bark. In fact this Saturday, our DJs won't just be playing music, they will be making music on the spot which is truly the next level in DJing. This Saturday is Funk Avy vs. Silverfilter version 2.0. If you missed the first one, here is your other chance to experience them again. See why people are raving (pun intended) about them. Local//e:!'s Funk Avy Vs. Rewired August 4, 2007 When I write saying that our last event was great, I'm telling the truth and I have evidence. I'm glad Warehouse 135 had a DJs booth large enough to accomodate 4 DJs (well to be exact, 1 dj, 2 crazy ass producers/turntablists/DJs and 1 VJ who still is a DJ). Did the club foresee a setup like this? Lucky for us. Thanks Domini, Driven, W135 for giving Manila another option and thank you for the opportunity to bring it up so much higher (no pun intended). Please visit http://rewiredmnl.multiply.com for more details of our upcoming nights. Please come to the next Rewired featuring Local//:e!!'s Funk Avy vs. Silverfilter, you won't regret it (unless you prefer the cheese). The Rewired Experiment.WMV.mpg (22.3 MB)

DJ Rap or Charissa Saverio as she is known to her friends, is a DJ from Walthamstow, E17 (although she insists that she does not know East 17 the group). She is known as DJ Rap because of the breakbeats she original played, her love of Hip-Hop and the fact that the promoters would not know that she was female. She first got into Hip-Hop because she liked the rhythms, she then moved to hardcore because "The rhythms got faster". Before she was a DJ she used to "Rave". She says she doesn't believe in going to work. She was a trainee Articled Clerk but she prefered raving so she jacked her job in. (Ok for some init!!!) She has released two proper album: 'Learning Curve' and 'Up All Night'. Her favorite drink is K and MD 20/20 (although probably in separate glasses). She also regards the Akai S1000 as the best thing ever invented and enjoys smoking a great big spliff. Her gig is something to look forward to. House, breakbeats, drum & bass. Finally! Also featuring, one of Manila's finest, Lady Trinity ( http://rewiredmnl.multiply.com/journal/item/1 )

| | It was another crazy night at Warehouse 135 as you can see from the photos. DJs Travis Monsod, Mulan and Houseboy kept the vibe up til the morning, and oh, we were blessed to have a surprise set from one of the country's finest, the veteran Erwin Edralin. Great crowd and it was nostalgic to see the familiar faces from the ABGs and Kemistry days. It was also encouraging to see new young faces grooving to the new sound of the underground. Who said Manila can't dance to techno and electro? Til the next party...lets keep on rewiring.
