It is interesting to note that I was associated with the other promotions group that was considered his competition. During the competitive years and as the Filipino crab-mentality absorbed some of us, he always commanded my respect. I share his passion and strong belief that Manila deserves to hear much more music than what is offered to us by our mainstream clubs.</p><p>Now, those of you who are younger are asking: “What am I talking about?” A short history lesson is needed for those who were not able to reach these...

samim_heater.flv

The first time I heard this track, I hated it, until I heard it again on a loudspeaker played by Spanish DJ Borhead at Elektro Disko at M Cafe. The context of any track differs on when, how and where it is played. An accordion on a house track? That accordion melody is definitely very catchy.

This track ruled the dancefloors in Ibiza last summer and all over the world all of 2007. A friend of mine said it is overplayed like hell in Europe. The few times I played it, the crowd reaction was great. So, I will ask again, how come it is not a hit here but a hit everywhere else in the world? Many of our DJs are still closed-minded but the times are-a-changing. Anyway, you can hear this and the latest in club music at Rewired and at Elektro Disko in M Cafe. Cheers to the DJs who keep it up to

This Saturday, October 13, we have another exclusive: the legendary Kevin Ruiz plays a 4 hour set. Be prepared to party! Be prepared to be blown away (again). Opening set by James Bald 008.

Kevin Ruiz is one of the country’s legendary DJs and is still one of the most highly rated. In the late nineties to 2003, he was resident of ABGs and then of seveneightorange, two clubs that were a big part of the house music revolution in Manila. His six-hour sets at seveneightorange made him famous. He is one of the very few in the local scene who can take you on a journey. Born and raised in New York City, he has kept the NYC influence in his music. Kevin’s music is very up to date as he is sent the latest tracks from DJs and producers around the world. He is also one of the few house DJs who can scratch and use proper effects in his DJ sets. He has played alongside numerous big name DJs/Artists such as Chicane, Deep Dish a...

I got goosebumps watching this video. Two of my four favorite female DJs (the other two being Lady Trinity and Miss Badkiss) together on the same stage.

Ellen Allien's 2006 album with Apparat called "Orchestra of Bubbles" is pure electronic ecstasy. Her 2007 Fabric 34 Mix is still the best mix I've heard this year. Miss Kittin is an established name in the electro scene, may i say, REAL electro scene. If you don't know who she is... well you should.

This Saturday, Sept 22, Rewired Warehouse 135 brings you another exclusive: Kevin Ruiz vs. Funk Avy. Two of the countries finest DJs go head to head in what looks like to be the DJing equivalent of a Manny Pacquiao fight. Opening set by another veteran, Travis Monsod.

Why I will remember Mars

<img src="http://images.adriancuenca.multiply.com/image/3/photos/23/600x600/1/remembering_mars_v2.jpg?et=kzPga8rXbobluuoAeAeGSQ">

I remember very well one early morning. I think it was 1992, James McCranie was on the decks after another moving prime time set by Elmer Dado. James was playing a set of unknown records. Nothing was familiar to me or to anyone else in the club. It was acid house and he was driving it hard record after record. Despite not knowing any track, it was a very moving set, and it made me and my friends dance like crazy on the floor. It was then I discovered the power and the artistry of the DJ. Instead of playing the anthems, James was using records as building blocks to build and create a vibe and energy that made people dance. That moment and many moments help shape clubbing in this country.

I couldn't see myself in any other club at that time. The music was impecabble and up to date. It was the time when acid house and techno were taking over dancefloors all over the world and Mars made sure they didn't get left out. They didn't rely on the popular hits but instead made ...

Power to the Consumer. Why Monopoly is bad. What to do with Sky Cable

If you are a user of Sky Cable and enjoy watching Solar Entertainment (Basketball TV, Solar Sports, Jack TV, ETC, 2nd Avenue, Crime/Suspense), consider switching cable providers soon. If you haven't heard yet, it was announced last saturday that Sky Cable will no longer carry the above channels starting January 2008. Hassle! They will be replacing these channels with their own new channels. <br><br>Through the years, Sky Cable has been a monopoly. While other countries enjoy stereo surround sound from TV, the sound from Sky Cable is still muffled mono. While we enjoh the food network some of their shows are 3 years old. Now they will punish their subscribers by not letting us watch the NBA playoffs.<br><br>Can someone with the time start a petition

I read a post recently that some people are getting bored with the same old music. Well, that is the reason Rewired was born and continues to exist. We too are tired of the same old commercial crap we hear over and over again. DJs are supposed to be artists, not jukeboxes. Well peeps, you finally have a choice.

This Saturday is going to be legendary and i'm not just saying that for hard sell's sake. Rubber Inc is a pioneer in the electronica scene in this country. They even met the mayor of Cologne (ironic that they are not appreciated as they should be in their own country). The Teichmann Brothers is an established name in the Berlin scene. Funk Avy is probably the hottest DJ in the city right now.

The choice is yours. If you miss it...well... If you don't, you can tell your children about it someday.

See you all this Saturday. Free entrance before midnight with a welcome

Back in the country after their successful gig at the C/O pop festival in Germany, Rubber Inc brought with them the Teichmann Brothers (<a href=http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=64974425>http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=64974425</a>). They just finished their Cebu gig at the Loft last Saturday and the crowd reaction was incredible, to say the least.

The two will be playing at Rewired, Warehouse 135 this Saturday September 8 with an opening set by international recording artist and our very own Funk Avy. This is another night you should not miss. Experience the music taking over dancefloors all over the world. Don't get left behind as we continue taking it further to another level.

A music workshop will precede the event at 6pm, Warehouse 135. To register, email your name age and occupation to rewired.manila@gmail.com.

Dance Dance Revolution
By Paolo B. Reyes

Save for the occasional alcohol-fueled scuffle or drunken celebrity sighting, Saturday nights never really offer anything out of the ordinary.

In fact, bare-knuckled showdowns –complete with hair-pulling and a nasty exchange of expletives -have become a spectator for all sorts of bar rats, casual observers, and accidental voyeurs.

But recently, Super was witness to a different kind of showdown, this time involving three local DJs and a live visual artist.

At the Rewired Experiment at Warehouse 135 last Aug. 4, progressive music meisters Caliph8, Stevie Tambunting, and Funk Avy faced off in a friendly battle that pitted their cutting-edge brand of dance music with the cool digital art of Dondon “Houseboy” Renato.

In fact this Saturday, our DJs won't just be playing music, they will be making music on the spot which is truly the next level in DJing.

This Saturday is Funk Avy vs. Silverfilter version 2.0. If you missed the first one, here is your other chance to experience them again. See why people are raving (pun intended) about them.

Tony Wilson R.I.P.

Many people in my network don't know who he is. I'm sure even most people I know in Manila will refer to 'Happy Mondays' as that hip and fun night at Embassy Cuisine. Happy Mondays was the name of a band signed by Tony Wilson's Factory Records, fyi.<br><br>New Order and Factory Records, the Hacienda, these are what Tony Wilson was partly responsible for. Those three names have changed the landscape of music and clubbing forever. He is one of my heroes and his unconventional (almost-hedonistic) method of achieving his business goals has inspired me to do somewhat the same. His vision and belief in pushing the music scene was pure and borne out of passion. I don't care if people read this post and say I'm strange. Strange is one adjective Tony Wilson has heard many times.<br><br>If you don't know who he is, please watch the movie 24-hour party people.<br><br>R.I.P from one of those you have

Rewired: Reconnecting Manila Clubbing. August 4, 2007

Rewired August 4, 2007

When I write saying that our last event was great, I'm telling the truth and I have evidence. I'm glad Warehouse 135 had a DJs booth large enough to accomodate 4 DJs (well to be exact, 1 dj, 2 crazy ass producers/turntablists/DJs and 1 VJ who still is a DJ). Did the club foresee a setup like this? Lucky for us. Thanks Domini, Driven, W135 for giving Manila another option and thank you for the opportunity to bring it up so much higher (no pun intended).

Please visit <a href=http://rewiredmnl.multiply.com>http://rewiredmnl.multiply.com</a> for more details of our upcoming nights. Please come to the next Rewired featuring Local//:e!!'s Funk Avy vs. Silverfilter, you won't regret it (unless you prefer the cheese).
